Happy National Candy Cane Day (December 26th)

What better way to celebrate the day after Christmas than by learning the facts about candy canes? The iconic red and white striped candies were first made around 1900. The best-known flavor of course is peppermint but now you can enjoy tastes such as jalapeƱo, bubble gum, cherry cola, various fruits and more.

Did you know that more than 1.76 billion candy canes are made each year? The biggest candy cane ever made was 51 feet long, when a chef from Geneva, IL broke the Guinness world record in September, 2012. His creation was made from a whopping 900 pounds of sugar.
There are even BACON candy canes!Check them out here. So if there are bacon-flavored candy canes, then why not pickle-flavored ones? There are.

Candy canes are sometimes used as a topping for ice cream or to stir drinks such as hot chocolate or coffee. You can also crush them up and add to cocktails or use the crushed flakes to rim the edge of the glass. Would you believe that almost 2 BILLION candy canes are sold in the weeks leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah?

What's your favorite flavor or way to use up left-over candy canes? Happy December 26th and may the spirit of Christmas live on.
