Fall At the Beach: Coastal Changes and Autumn Thoughts

I revel in the sights and scenes of October, enjoying the beauty of the leaves and trees and the change in seasons, and I adore the years when we have that fabulous "fifth season" called Indian Summer. Those seem to me some of the best times of the year, when the ocean's water is still warm, the beach is empty and there is this peacefulness that seems to fall across our little corner of the world.

These are the days - right now, as I write this - which I so passionately wish for a time machine or method of halting the onward march of the year, just for a chance at bottling and preserving the beauty which is all around us. I thought I'd try to capture a few of the seasonal things which I love, some random links for decorating and celebrations, along with thoughts on the upcoming holidays.

Coastal Pumpkins ~ as a devoted fan of the ocean and beaches along our east coast these are of course a big favorite of mine. I don't really excel in the actual carving of a pumpkin for Halloween as it's a little bit yucky, and I'm certainly not capable of producing anything other than lopsided Jack 'o' Lantern with one tooth. Thus the brilliant idea of seasonal decorations which celebrate the sea, blended with whole, non-carved gourds, seems like a win-win. Check out a few of my favorites!
