Favorite Facebook Pages

A list of....Facebook pages? Yep, that's what we have here....and I bet you're wondering why. Well, over the years Facebook has gone through many evolutions of newsfeed options, and unfortunately, recent changes practically eliminated the pages I like from my newsfeed. 😕

It's National Bluebird of Happiness Day (September 24th)

I'm sure you have all seen the little birds one can purchase around the world, made of colored glass. Did you know those have been made in the USA since the eighties?

Today is National Thrift Store Day!

Celebrated on August 17th each year, this date spotlights second-hand shops, resale stores, thrift boutiques, etc. Whatever you call them, they are part of our retail world - and they are most often found right where you live.

Since then, people of many cultures throughout the world have been wearing this style of casual shoes. Here are some fun summertime images to download and share on your social channels today! "Remember What You've Overcome Before"

This is something I think you needed to hear today. 🙂
Okay, truth be told, maybe it's just that I needed to post it.

"All Gave Some, Some Gave All"

I came across a few of these graphics while looking online for weekend inspiration. I thought there must be some eloquently worded posts to share on my social channels, or a poem perhaps.....maybe an article titled "things you didn't know about Memorial Day" or collection of thoughtful quotes, and while I found all those things, I also came across these images. I think perhaps they might serve as quiet reminders with a more solemn and appropriate message.

I Saw A Sign Today...... (Our World is Reopening)

Life is good, peeps.....and it's getting better as we're returning to all the stuff we missed over the last fifteen months. Are you finding this too? I never thought it possible I would miss actual conversations, long lunches at a local dinner, meeting and mingling....so much.

International Museum Day May 18th

Celebrating the history and value that museums bring to our lives - May 18th is International Museum Day. I honestly could not imagine a world without such places that bring the past alive, educate people of all ages, and tell the story of progress. (Okay, so this post isn't as much about tourism as it is culture and personal enrichment, two things I believe are essential to building community and making connections where we live.)

Lost Sock Memorial Day: Remembering the Ones We Lost

May 9th is (drumroll, please)..... finally, a holiday that can unite and bring us together. We all understand and can relate to the emotional rollercoaster process of doing laundry, retrieving fresh, warm clothes from the dryer, only to reach the bottom of the basket and come up a sock short, right? 😒

Welcome May! Images and Graphics Celebrating the Fifth Month of the Year

Good morning and welcome to the first day of Month #5! Can you believe how fast 2021 is flying by? Personally I think it may be because we're so enthusiastic to be seeing things reopening and getting back to some sense of normalcy, and there's an excitement at seeing events and activities taking place again which we've missed so much for the past fourteen months.

What If We Didn't Accept What is Happening Around Us.....

I've been getting pushback this week from an effort I'm involved with, sent nasty messages and was unfriended and bitched at...and it's only Tuesday. For about 8 seconds this morning I felt really angry and sad and sorry for myself.....

Celebrating "Mom and Pop Business Owners Day"

Coming up on March 29th, Mom & Pop Business Owners Day gives us a reason to pause and celebrate the coolest people who make our neighborhoods a unique place to live. Without friendly faces and best-loved places our neighborhoods and communities would be dull and boring - thankfully, we have locally owned and operated businesses to that bring personal connections and cool experiences. 😎

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day 2021

It is time once again for us to pause, remember, and thank our Vietnam Veterans. Although we are grateful everyday for the contributions made by the men and women who serve our country, March 29th (or 30th, in some places) is the officially designated occasion created to acknowledge them.

Hello Spring! It's Been A Whole Year Since We Saw You

The first day of spring. A day I've seen glide across my radar more times than I probably care to count, just another 24-hour time period in the wildly dramatic month of March. Years ago I would have cringed at the thought of hot weather, blooming trees and pollen everywhere, but then I realized allergies are not a life sentence and began to see things from a better perspective. This is, after all, a new season and a fresh breath of air - a welcome beginning to the months filled with warmer temperatures, longer days and more fun outdoors, right?

Won't You Be My Neighbor Day | Celebrating Mr. Fred Rogers

I talk a lot on my social media sites about neighborhood, connections to people where you live, local flavor, etc. Growing up I never had that - I mean, we lived in a subdivision, but my family didn't interact well with others - and so that just became the norm. 😕 Later on in my next chapter of life, when we bought our first house, it seemed weird and strange to just walk outside and talk to well.....strangers 😳 and so I kept my distance.

"Shine Where You Are"

Whatever our role in life may be, the choice is always ours to approach it in one of two ways. We can to decide to complain and be unhappy, or to carry out our daily tasks with enthusiasm and dedication. Everything we do matters to someone, so why not shine where you are placed?

Ice Cream for Breakfast Day (happening the 1st Saturday in February)

Coming up on February 6th it's the third "official frozen dessert holiday" of the year.....and it's a good one! Ice Cream for Breakfast Day invites us all to tap into our inner child and break rules by indulging in delicious creations involving pancakes, waffles, cereal and sometimes even donut ice cream sandwiches. (I KNOW!)

Somerset County, MD | John Wesley United Methodist Church and Cemetery

Four years ago I'd posted a short entry about this small historic African-American church and graveyard in Deal Island, Maryland. The headstones represented veterans of multiple generations and conflicts and I felt it was such a tragedy that the property was so badly damaged (likely due to Hurricane Sandy).

Ditch The Discord: Let's Move Forward, America

We are not "red" or "blue" people; we are Americans. Today I couldn't help but wonder if the time has come for us to cease blaming and instead start repairing...

Lesser Known Quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Everyone has been posting words from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. over the past few days, usually sharing his most popular and widely circulated phrases. As a leader who has inspired me for decades, who's words I wove into speeches in high school and were the first sentence I posted on my Facebook profile, I wanted to find something a bit different to pass on today.

Ducks and National Bird Day (January 5th)

Once upon a time I thought I would take pictures of wildlife, birds and critters. I soon found out I'm not actually cut out to photograph living things like animals, because they move. 🙄 This group of ducks however, must have been half asleep because they patiently sat there while I attempted to capture them on my phone. 😆 ⁣

Ice Lovers | Soft Ice, Chewy Ice, Sonic and More

Ice, ice baby......okay, that's an oldie but it's a fact that a lot of us LOVE, adore, crave and delight in eating ice. No, it doesn't always mean there's something wrong with you, healthwise.....sure, it can mean that but plenty of us are fine and just obsessed with locating and enjoying "good ice".

Looking Forward as We Welcome a Fresh Start

In an unprecedented year of turmoil, political division and challenges, maybe now is the time to turn difficulties into opportunities.
