Things That Are Gone | Bayside Cantina in Ocean City, MD (former Phillips Seafood)

During 2017 I started noting closures around our local area on the Delmarva Peninsula, wishing to preserve some of the most famous and well-known places through photos and news articles. "All Gone: Things That Aren't There Anymore in Ocean City, Maryland" was the first, and I've included a list of additional links at the end of this blog post.

In April 2018, the Phillips Seafood location in North Ocean City, Maryland made an announcement on it's Facebook page. They were reopening for the season not as the iconic restaurant known for decades and loved by generations, but as a new establishment called the "Bayside Cantina".

Operating throughout the tourist season, the day following summer's unofficial ending (Labor Day weekend), the Facebook page informed that the restaurant had closed. Statement via DelmarvaNow.com: "After rebranding to offer Mexican cuisine, the restaurant first opened May 1, but the new venture was short-lived. By the end of August — less than 130 days after opening — the restaurant's location on 141st Street in Ocean City was listed as for sale by Coldwell Banker." See the article here.

I stopped by a few weeks later to take some photos of the exterior. At the end of this post is an image I took several years ago of the famed Phillips sign, probably around 2015 or so.
