The goals of this holiday attraction are simply stated on their website:
1) Create a cultural tradition for our community,
2) Raise money to support our community charities,
3) Economically boost our beach communities during the winter season.
Prices are by the car. Monday - Wednesday thru December 22nd: $15. Thursday - Sunday, and from December 24th - December 31st: $20. There is also the option for a hayride tour (see details on the website). Once you go through the ticket booth, it's recommended to turn your headlights to low while traveling through the display, which is nicely spaced out and has plenty of space to pull off if and let others go by.
Wild animals, carolers, toy soldiers, and all kinds of lighted shapes alternate on both sides of your vehicle as you wind along the one-mile path. I loved the lighted bridge representing the distinctive version in northern Delaware, but the World War II gun tower and lighthouse would have to be my favorites. NOTE: please excuse the quality (or lack of), in these photos. I am NOT terribly talented at nighttime pictures! 🙄
I found the lighted forest delightful as well - shades of color illuminating the tall trees made for a really appealing touch towards the end of the route, which ended with Santa Claus! Here he is, a very friendly and personable Santa, a perfect end to our visit.
Winter Wonderfest is a lot of fun and a lovely experience for all ages. I'd definitely recommend this for families with little kids who I'm sure would love seeing all the animals and shapes.
