Damaged
I don't think people understand what it's like to have something wrong, a part of you that doesn't quite work right or is always a struggle. If they've never been there, how could they know, right? Have you ever noticed they all say "I get it"....or mumble that they hear you....or tell you that someone they know has a similar issue so of course it's totally understandable....? Yeah, okay.

Sick of pink
Damn. In the hype over possibly being wiped off the face of the earth from a Hurricane Joaquin, and my stress about how to get 12 paws on and out the door for the next 5 days in the rain, I totally forgot what October symbolizes. The damn pink is back. It's everywhere and it's making me sick. It's a huge moneymaker and no other form of cancer could have EVER been glorified enough to sell like this. Awareness and research and support of those who fight....ABSOLUTELY. but it's become a farce. And really since we're being honest
.....sex sells. You can't convince me this marketing madness is sheer profiting off boobs. Try getting that kind of support for any other kind of cancer.

Stop being hypocritical and pretending that breast cancer is the #1 killer because it's not. There are millions of people suffering from all types of this horrible disease and how the hell do you think they feel that they don't get a whole month devoted to THEIR illness? Let's be honest....the pink thing is a great marketing ploy, one worth millions and billions of dollars. Let's "pretty up" an ugly sickness and make it sell like crazy....and it DOES.
Did you know that many products out there don't even really do much for cancer support or research? Yep, you may have just paid twice the price for something either a pink ribbon on it but did you look and see what it actually benefits? I hate to admit that the whole thing is pretty clever but I'm too busy being disgusted. When you find the support for the really awful parts of cancer and the many forms it takes and assign a month to them let me know - otherwise stop pretending and make this about ALL CANCER. Which wouldn't sell nearly as well now would it? But sex
Disclaimer: I mean absolutely NO DISRESPECT to those battling breast cancer or those who have lost loved ones to it. ALL cancer is horrible. My father died one week after his 60th birthday. His type was considered just the ordinary, average kind that takes lives. It wasn't pretty and would never have sold as well as the pink theme. You ALL MATTER.

My point exactly.... #sickofpink

UPDATED 10/30/15: Wow. It seems that the "pink campaign" the NFL has been promoting doesn't even raise funds for research.....

Matthews Market in Mappsville, VA: One of the Last Independent Grocery Stores
February 2015
In a tiny town on Virginia's eastern shore, the owners of an independent grocery store are fighting against ANOTHER proposed Dollar General. This would be the third DG within 14 miles. And it could potentially spell death for Matthews Market. Visit their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/matthewsmarket1991

"The community of Mappsville has no need to embrace a corporate choke hold. Independent businesses are the cornerstone of our economy and should not be outnumbered by the desire for yet another chain store. To encourage the approval for a third location of Dollar General would compromise the integrity of our area and jeopardize the options available to the public."

Updates.....
2/18: Between our online petition & the petition we have in the store we have 207 signatures. We would like a lot more. Please sign to stop the rezoning from Residential to General Business to allow a Dollar General in Mappsville. We don't need a Dollar General in every town! Plus there is enough traffic issues in Mappsville without adding more problems. Please SIGN & SHARE. Does not matter if you are a resident of Va. or not.
2/14: "Come on now Matthews Market peeps, we need those signatures to help stop the Dollar General from coming to Mappsville. We are pretty sure it doesn't matter what state you live in (because we have a lot of customers who are out of state), so please sign our petition. Let's help the "Little Man" survive this one!! PS: Sign & Share"
2/11: "Ok we held them off for one meeting! Seen some love tonight for our community. Now we need to rally the troops together. Another meeting Tues Feb 24th.We need all the support we can get to stop Dollar General from coming to Mappsville. Not only would it hurt our business but the excess to the highway from the store would be a SERIOUS issue!"
2/9: "There is a zoning meeting on Wed Feb 11th to change the property located on the corner of Rt 13 & Davis Drive in Mappsville from residential to general business to allow for a Dollar General. There is ALREADY a Dollar General six miles north and one eight miles south of Matthews Market.
This would hurt our business because they sell everything we do except for meats. At the very least we would have to let some of the employees go & if we could not compete with Dollar General we could possible shut the doors.Meeting at 7:30 Accomack County Administration Building Rm 104, 23296 Courthouse Ave, Accomac, VA"

My First Honor Flight | Welcoming World War II Veterans to DC
Washington, DC 10.18.14
On Saturday I got to thank some American heroes. I was lucky enough to shake hands, meet, greet, welcome them to their memorial for the first time, and honor their service. In return they thanked us for being there; so surprised and grateful for our attention and caring. It was humbling to see the gentlemen who broke into tears, overcome with emotion at seeing all of us waiting. I hope you can do this one day soon; I hope you take your children their to experience what it's like.
We left Delaware at 5am.
