Here are a few ideas for supporting small biz where you live this summer. Have fun and involve the whole family - because there are so many awesome ways to get out and "explore local"!
Go berry picking ~ so many area farms offer this near where I live. It's basically a way of life here to gather up your friends or family members and head out for strawberries, blueberries or peaches during the warmer months. Check ahead to see what their schedules are since of course the crop depends upon the time of year. Maybe plan a stop at a famous little dinner or family restaurant on the way home!
Order ahead of time at the independent grocery story or butcher for ultra-fresh meats and grilling foods.
Look online for local festivals, community events and outdoor celebrations happening throughout your state. Explore some of the neighboring Main Street areas or downtown districts near your home.
Make a trip to the farmers market a weekly event. Not only can you benefit from picking up fresh fruits and veggies, you are supporting local farm families as well.
Picnic Plans? Place an order today with the sub shop or deli that serves up generous sandwiches to go!

Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month? Choose the smarter option and make a trip to your family-owned creamery for some spectacular treats.
When we make it a point to remember the "Mom and Pop" business owners - the people we know from the local community - who own and operate retail shops, restaurants and run their family farms, we're spending smarter!
Planning some home improvements? Why waste your valuable time standing in line at the big box store our of town? The indie hardware store or garden center is filled with DIY materials, plants and home items - AND they will often pay more attention to you. (P.S. They usually helpful advice is available at no charge!)
Don't forget about nearby attractions, amusements and things to do! Perhaps the sports complex, batting cages, mini-golf or water park in your town is actually locally-owned and operated - instead of being a franchise or chain location. Why not choose them first?
Downtown plazas, shopping areas and Main Street communities often provide entertainment during the warmer months. These provide fun for all ages and are family-friendly ways to be out and participate in concerts, dance or musical performances!
This is a fun time of the year, offering lots of opportunities for outdoor fun, road trips and travel. Remind yourself and your family that exploring the charming small towns and area attractions can be just as cool as taking a plane to another state. (and a bit more economical too!) What are some of the awesome experiences that you are planning to enjoy?
I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing summer. Please consider making the effort to visit, enjoy and support the independently-owned businesses in your local area. After all, when we invest in our people and places we are working to build a better community. Thanks for reading!
