Maryland Torch Run for Special Olympics: Worcester County Torch Run In Ocean City

As the Worcester County Torch Run prepares to kick off on Monday morning, June 6th, I'm sorting out some of my photos from the last couple of years. This is a great event to attend - come out and watch the Special Olympics torch begin it's journey by traveling down the famous Ocean City boardwalk while cheering on the athletes and runners.

Here's the event information followed by itinerary for the day. Once the torch travels down the boardwalk, the runners board a bus and proceed to Berlin, where they will run through various neighborhoods and visit local schools. They then pass through Main Street in the Town of Berlin and conclude at the Berlin fire house.

For additional information, see the link on Facebook here: Worcester County Torch Run 2022.

Multiple agencies come out to participate each year, including local departments from Ocean City PD, Ocean City Fire Department, Maryland State Police, Worcester County Sheriff's Department, mounted patrol units, Berlin Police, Ocean Pines and motorcycles as well.

Here's a look back at albums from previous years with some of my favorite images:

• Worcester County Torch Run 2021

• in 2020 the event was cancelled due to Covid-19

• Maryland Law Enforcement Torch Run 2019

• June 2018 Worcester County, MD Torch Run

I hope you can make time to join the beginning of the Torch Run on Monday morning in Ocean City. OCPD will have hats and t-shirts available for purchase and you can cheer for the runners either at 21st street on the boards (in front of the Grand Hotel) when they depart, or wait for them to arrive at the boardwalk arch at North Division Street, where they take a group photo. See you there!
