"A good neighbor is a beautiful blessing in our lives."
Sometimes it seems that our world is too hectic...sometimes we get so caught up trying to do too much, hyper-focused on the busyness of life, often to the point of forgetting the little daily connections which once made our lives richer. Maybe we just miss out on the part about caring for others, having conversations and day to day exchanges and hellos, because we're busy, but at the same time, we speak wistfully of the previous decades as if such interaction was one of the best parts of our lives.
It seems fitting then, that today's holiday theme for National Good Neighbor Day is "start with Hello", a nudge perhaps, reminding us to pause and speak to people we sometimes spend years or even lifetimes living next to, or across from. Maybe we are meant to slow down and walk a few steps to the left to roll back a neighbor's trash can or deliver a package which arrived to us by mistake; it could be that a few casual words exchanged on a Saturday morning turn into a Sunday stroll or Friday night get-together, because we are social human beings and engaging with one another is still an essential activity for our mental health and overall wellness.
Let's use today as a springboard at the deep end of the pool; a stepping off exercise designed to bring us out of that too-familiar and comfortable rut we so often find ourselves slipping into. Post one of the graphics included here on your social media channels, share a cheerful suggestion in a local group, or go over and chat with one of the humans you share a street with. Let's pass on the message of "unity through community", because unless we push ourselves to do these things, soon they may become the occasions we only remember and never participate in anymore.
"Uniting communities, one wave, smile, or hello at a time." 😊 ✨️👋 Check out the website for today's holiday dedicated to all kinds of tips and interaction ideas to use 365 days a year!
