The Joy Of Ice Cream | Best Places in Delaware, Maryland and the Delmarva Peninsula

I cannot lie....I LOVE ice cream, especially the premium deliciousness which is locally made here on Delmarva. It's such a big part of our communities, family farms and favorite places I even created a map of listings named "The Delmarva Ice Cream Trail". (See below for more links on local places).

National Ice Cream Month is celebrated each year in July, along with National Ice Cream Day observed on the third Sunday in July. The celebrations were originated by Joint Resolution 298 in the United States Senate on May 17th 1984, proclaiming the month of July "National Ice Cream Month" and July 15th as "National Ice Cream Day". These were signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on July 9th, 1984 with Presidential Proclamation 5219. Source

More about these holidays: When President Reagan wanted to commemorate a treat enjoyed by over 90 percent of the US population, his 1984 proclamation actually glorified the dairy industry in America. In fact, Americans still lead the world when it comes to eating this frozen delight - 23 gallons a year to be precise. Reagan also proclaimed July as National Ice Cream month, describing ice cream as ‘‘a nutritious and wholesome food enjoyed by over ninety percent of the people in the United States.’’ Source

The following facts shared via Time And Date:

• Traditionally made by freezing a mixture of cream or milk, sugar, and some kind of flavoring, ice cream is often eaten after a meal as a dessert or as a mid-meal snack.

• As a treat, ice cream has a long and varied history, though very little is known about its origins. Some historians believed that the Chinese were responsible for inventing the earliest versions of this dessert, while others suggest that the Romans mixed snow with honey and fruits to create the first prototype of ice cream. Either way, the early types of ice cream were nothing like the ice cream we are familiar with today.

• In the old days before refrigerators became common kitchen equipment, ice cream was a food reserved for the royals and the rich and it was only eaten during special occasions. The development of refrigeration technology quickly made ice cream a commonly enjoyed dessert around the world, and of course today, people can easily make ice cream at home with the help of portable ice cream makers. A bit of frosty humor......
