Ice Lovers | Soft Ice, Chewy Ice, Sonic and More

Ice, ice baby......okay, that's an oldie but it's a fact that a lot of us LOVE, adore, crave and delight in eating ice. No, it doesn't always mean there's something wrong with you, healthwise.....sure, it can mean that but plenty of us are fine and just obsessed with locating and enjoying "good ice". 


What defines some of these frosty treats as better than others? For most folks it's the small nuggets of frozen goodness similar to what you find at Sonic fast food restaurants, for other people it's shaved or flaked coldness found in a restaurant or even just a plain version from the local snowball stand. I'm going to note a few local places around Delmarva where one can enjoy such delicacies and also a bunch of interesting links below.



The Snowball Stand in Ocean Pines, MD is a fabulous treat for all ages. Featuring over 70 incredible flavors which can be added to the finest shaved ice makes everyday a special occasion. You can get plain ice too but but most of us love the flavors and they even have sugar-free options. Open spring - December but please contact them for exact hours and dates of operation.

Rayne's Reef Soda Fountain & Grill located on Main Street Berlin has serving tasty eats and cool treats since 1901. Menu includes burgers, Reubens, ice cream, milkshakes, and ice cream sodas. In their drinks is the flakiest, softest ice I've ever had and I never leave without buying an extra beverage to take home. The ambiance is worth going for and the ice is topping on the cake, so to speak. Not sure if they sell it by the bag but I'm going to stop by and ask.

Dumser's Dairyland has been making quality homemade ice cream since 1939 and has several locations in and around Ocean City, Maryland. Go for breakfast, lunch or dinner - and of course, ice cream so you can enjoy super-soft ice pellets in your drink. 
Located at: 123rd Street, 47th Street and downtown in Ocean City, along with boardwalk stores and an ice cream shop in West Ocean City.




Sonic Drive-in has what many argue is the best small ice around. I'm not sure it's THE BEST, but I believe we feel that way because they actually sell it by the bag so you're not just limited to ordering a beverage. Locations on Delmarva exist in Bridgeville, Delaware and on Virginia's eastern shore, and it's super fun to stock up on for a party. Visit their website for location info.
