National Night Out 2016 is Tuesday, August 2nd across Delmarva

From coast to coast each August gatherings of local residents and neighborhood police departments meet and mingle with the goal of getting to know one another and building connections. Tuesday, August 2nd is National Night Out, an event taking place all across the country to encourage you to get out and participate in interactions with your community. Listed below are a few of the scheduled activities being held here in the Delmarva area.

From the official website: "National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live." DELAWARE

Newark, DE: The Newark Police, University of Delaware Police and Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company are hosting the second annual National Night Out from 6PM until 9PM. MARYLAND

Pocomoke, MD: #NationalNightOut in Pocomoke will be held from 5PM until 7PM. Location: City Cypress Park. Fruitland, MD: The Fruitland Police Department is hosting a Free Event from 5PM-8PM. There will be a Petting Zoo, Bounce House, Games, Bike Raffle's for kids of all ages, every Kid WILL leave with something! Also on hand:


  • Maryland State Police Aviation Command, Trooper 4
  • Wicomico County Sheriff's Office- K9 Demonstration
  • Maryland State Fire Marshalls Office Demonstrations
  • 20 Bikes to be Raffled off And Much More!

Ocean City, MD: the Ocean City Police Department will join several neighborhoods to celebrate National Night Out, a nationwide event created to promote positive relationships between neighbors and their local police officers. National Night Out was first celebrated in 1984 and has grown to a nationwide event celebrated by more than 16,000 communities.

The Caine Woods and Bayshore Drive neighborhoods have celebrated National Night Out for many years. This year, yet another neighborhood will be joining the effort to bring communities together – Montego Bay. The event will occur at the following locations:

Caine Woods Neighborhood - Fiesta Park on 141st Street
Montego Bay Neighborhood - end of Harbor Drive
Bayshore Drive Neighborhood - Gullway Villas courtyard on Lark Lane

Greenwood, DE: August 9th from 6PM until 8PM."Join us for our Night Out Against Crime! This year’s event will be held August 9th, 6-8pm at the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company. We will have free food, entertainment, activities, and giveaways! Help us support our local school district and food bank by donating new school supplies and/or canned goods. Dover, DE: The Dover Police Department will be hosting #NNO16 on Tuesday, August 9th from 6PM until 9PM. Location: Target at 148 John Hunn Brown Rd in Dover. "This event is completely FREE and great for all ages. Check out the Dover Police K9's, hang out in the armored truck with our Special Operations Team, put out a "fire" with the Dover Fire Department, and get up close to the Delaware State Police Helicopter. WSFS Bank is offering FREE document shredding to protect you from ID theft. All this and much more is available for eveyone. Target will be raffling off toys, games, bicycles, and other prizes all evening and Petch And Amy On Eagle 977 will be broadcasting LIVE!"

Smyrna, DE: The Smyrna Police Department will be observing NNO on August 11th. "The SPD will again be hosting a national night out against crime on August 11th. The event will be held on Market Street Plaza. The focus of the Night Out event is to build community partnerships between the SPD and the citizens we serve. We encourage local business owners, clubs, and organizations to come out and partner with the Smyrna Police Department in meeting and greeting the community and also to showcase their organization. This event is completely free to the public."
